ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ Howard Porter and Harry Kennedy each scored 21 points as Central Florida won its season opener, 101-74, over Palm Beach Atlantic Monday night.
Porter, the only returning starter, scored 19 points in the second half as the Knights shot 56 percent from the field and forced 26 turnovers from the Sailfish, an NAIA school.
Kennedy came off the bench to score 13 first-half points in his UCF debut. Brad Tice also turned in a strong opening performance, hitting all six field goal attempts in a 13-point effort.
Reid Ketteler had a career high 13 points, including 7-7 from the free throw line. Eric Riggs added 11.
The Knights held the Sailfish to four points in the first 10 minutes, taking an 18-4 advantage. Central Florida pushed its lead to 20 at 38-18 on a baseline jumper by Kennedy with 3:27 remaining.
The Knights led 50-23 at halftime.
Central Florida led by as many as 35 in the second half.
Terry Primm led Palm Beach Atlantic with 21, followed by Brac Brady with 17 and David Furtado with 13.
