CAIRO, Egypt (AP) _ Smoke billowing from a fertilizer factory in northern Egypt sickened 64 people Sunday, police said.
Ambulances rushed the sick, who had fainted, to a hospital in Kafr el-Dawar, 12 miles south of the Abu Qir Fertilizer plant.
Smoke routinely is discharged from the factory, 15 miles east of the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria. Environment officials were to investigate how it became toxic.
Thirty-five patients left the hospital within a few hours, police officials said on customary condition of anonymity. The rest were expected to be released later in the day.
