PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) _ Police bomb disposal experts blew up a suspicious package left in a trash can outside the U.S. Embassy today, but it turned out to be harmless.

All the package contained was a bottle with unidentified liquid.

``It was not an explosive device,'' said embassy spokesman Bruce Wharton.

Security at American facilities has been tightened since the deadly Aug. 7 bomb attacks on the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. On Aug. 25, a Planet Hollywood restaurant in Cape Town was bombed, fatally wounding two people. No arrests have been made.
