SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) _ A jury cleared Kmart of negligence in the case of a 13-year-old boy who was killed when a 1,200-pound soda machine fell on him.

Jason Beggs had been rocking the machine outside a store in 1995 for reasons that were not clear.

The boy's parents sued Kmart for unspecified damages for putting the machine on a sloped concrete slab without an anchor.

But Kmart argued that Jason had a habit of destructive behavior. Witnesses testified that in the months before his death, he broke two windshields, burned a friend with a lighter and threatened to hit his mother.

The jury rejected the parents' claims Wednesday.

``It was the boy's fault for jumping up and down on the machine,'' juror Cyrus Smith said.
