WASHINGTON (AP) _ The Pentagon notified Congress on Thursday that it intends to sell 30 upgraded Apache attack helicopters with more advanced anti-armor missiles to the United Arab Emirates for $1.5 billion.
The Persian Gulf nation, which is a U.S. ally, will get the AH-64D model of the Apache with its Longbow fire control radar and other more modern sensors. The helicopters will be armed with AGM-114L3 Hellfire II laser-guided missiles.
The Pentagon also said it intends to sell to Israel 1,000 Joint Direct Attack Munitions, the satellite-guided bombs that are a favorite U.S. weapon in the war in Afghanistan. The sale is worth $27 million.
