LYNCHBURG, Tenn. (AP) _ An oversized yard party at the Jack Daniel Distillery turned into a full-fledged rock concert on when The Wallflowers and Third Eye Blind took the stage.
The world-famous distillery is celebrating the 150th birthday of its founder Jack Daniel this month.
About 1,000 invited guests _ employees, contest winners and the 361 residents of Lynchburg _ were kept in the dark about who would be performing Saturday because organizers were afraid they would be overrun with gatecrashers if word got out in advance.
``Y'all should be proud of yourselves, because rock 'n' roll would not have been invented without your product,'' said Stephan Jenkins, lead singer of San Francisco-based Third Eye Blind.
Guests were given two free glasses of Jack Daniel whiskey. Lynchburg is in a county where purchase of alcohol is prohibited. But since the birthday event was a private party, the whiskey drinking was legal.
