Bridge along main Delaware artery set to close for months
Sep. 08, 2018
ST. GEORGES, Del. (AP) — Traffic along a major north-south artery in Delaware will be affected for months as crews close a bridge spanning the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal for repairs.
The News Journal reports work will begin Monday on the St. Georges Bridge, which carries U.S. 13 over the canal in New Castle County. It's expected to continue through January.
Tim Boyle of the U.S. Army Corps' Philadelphia District says the bridge wasn't in imminent danger but needed the repairs.
Motorists are advised to use the Sen. William V. Roth Jr. Bridge as a detour.
Gene Donaldson is with the state's Department of Transportation. He says drivers may need to add a little time to their commute during peak hours.
