Dow Slips 14 in Early Trading
Oct. 19, 1998
NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices are lower in early trading. The Dow Jones industrial average is down 14 points in today's early going. Decliners on the New York Stock Exchange hold a narrow lead over advancers.
The Nasdaq Composite Index has lost two points and the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index is down two points.
Analysts expected stocks to open lower as some profit-taking kicks in following Friday's 117-point gain.
They're say any break from last week's big rally, in which the Dow gained more than 500 points for the week, won't have anything to do with today's date.
This is the eleventh anniversary of the stock market's big crash in 1987.
