ACCRA, Ghana (AP) _ West African powers Ghana and Cameroon advanced to the quarterfinals of the African Cup despite losses Monday in their final first-round games.
Ivory Coast beat Ghana 2-0 when Bonaventure Kalou beat goalkeeper Richard Kingston in the final minute of the first half and Olivier Sie scored with seven minutes remaining.
At Kumasi, Massamesso Tchangai scored 19 minutes in as Togo beat Cameroon 1-0.
All four nations in Group A finished with 1-1-1 records and four points, but Cameroon (plus 2) and Ghana (even) advanced on goal difference. Ivory Coast (minus 1) and Togo (minus 1) were eliminated.
Cameroon plays the second-place team from Group B, while Ghana plays the Group B winner. South Africa, Algeria and Congo remain in contention in Group B, which finishes first-round play Wednesday.
