Man charged with raping woman in Seattle car dealership

SEATTLE (AP) — A 24-year-old man charged with raping a woman in a Seattle bathroom is jailed on $1 million bail.
Christopher Teel was charged Wednesday with rape and unlawful imprisonment. He's to be arraigned May 30 in King County Superior Court.
Charging documents say he followed a 40-year-old woman into the bathroom of a car dealership in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood Monday.
Prosecutors say he broke into the stall and choked and raped her. She screamed for help and tried to fight back. Employees at the dealership interrupted the attack and restrained the man until police arrived.
The King County Public Defense Department said Thursday Teel hasn't been assigned a public defender yet.
Prosecutors argued that Teel, who is homeless, should be detained because his lack of community ties and transient lifestyle create a risk that he'll flee.
Court records show Teel was charged with criminal trespassing in 2017. A bench warrant was issued in March 2017 when he failed to show up for a hearing.
