WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — An Illinois woman charged with killing her 6-year-old son and taking his body on a commuter train has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that 29-year-old Jamie Jones of Round Lake Beach entered her plea during a hearing on Thursday in Lake County. She also faces other charges, including concealing a homicide.
Prosecutors say that on July 1, Jones took the body of Carl Rice Jr. onto a Metra train in Round Lake Beach, rode to Chicago before carrying the body off the train and getting into a vehicle driven by her father with the body.
Her family members called paramedics when they realized the boy wasn't breathing. Prosecutors contend the boy died from injuries caused by child abuse.
