STARS

Sunday

_Shaquille O'Neal, Lakers, scored 39 points, including 22 in the fourth quarter, and grabbed 14 rebounds to rally the defending NBA champions to a 108-103 victory over the Clippers.

_Clifford Robinson, Suns, scored 30 points to lift Phoenix past Houston 104-99.

SIDELINED

Grant Hill's injured ankle will sideline him for at least the next two weeks and possibly a whole lot longer. Hill, one of Orlando's major offseason acquisitions, has missed two of the team's first four games during the season's opening week, including a 107-104 victory at Atlanta on Saturday night. The team said Hill, who had ankle surgery in May, will not be placed on the injured list, which would cause him to miss a minimum of five games.

STRONG IN DEFEAT

Houston reserve guard Cuttino Mobley scored 27 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter, but the Rockets lost 104-99 to Phoenix on Sunday night. ... Lamar Odom had 19 points, 15 rebounds and six assists as the Los Angeles Clippers gave the defending champion Lakers all they could handle in a 108-103 loss.

SPEAKING

``We can't ever walk into the locker room and feel content about losing. There are no moral victories. To think that we're satisfied that we played them close, I don't get any satisfaction out of that. It still goes down as a loss.'' _ Clippers coach Alvin Gentry after his team lost to the champion Lakers 108-103.
