DENVER (AP) _ Roberto Donadoni scored one goal and assisted on another as the New York-New Jersey MetroStars beat the Colorado Rapids 2-0 in Major League Soccer on Sunday.

Tony Meola posted his league-leading seventh shutout of the season for New York-New Jersey (11-11), which improved to 7-2 with Donadoni in the lineup.

In front of 8,880 at Mile High Stadium, Donadoni opened the scoring 14 minutes into the game with a 28-yard free kick. He kicked the ball over the Rapids' defensive wall and into the upper left corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

Twenty minutes later, Donadoni lobbed a pass from midfield to Miles Joseph, who shot over Colorado goalkeeper Chris Woods from 18 yards out for his first goal.

The best scoring chance for the Rapids (10-16) came in the third minute when Chris Benedetti's shot hit the crossbar.
