CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) _ U.S. Immigration officers arrested 21 illegal immigrants and four men suspected of smuggling them, officials said Wednesday.
Immigration and Naturalization Service agents made the arrests in two separate incidents in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a cluster of islands off the southeastern coast of Florida, the service said.
On Tuesday the agents arrested four men suspected of smuggling illegal immigrants and six illegal immigrants in supermarkets in St. Thomas and St. Croix, two islands about 50 miles east of Puerto Rico.
The Dominican, Palestinian and Venezuelan immigrants were arrested while working at Plaza Extra and Lindberg Bay grocery stores, INS spokesman Rick Sell said.
