MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Famous Dave's of America Inc. said Monday that David Goronkin will take over as chief executive Aug. 11 and will fill a vacancy on the restaurant company's board.

Goronkin, who previously served as chief operating officer and a board member of Buffets Inc., has more than 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry. He succeeds David W. Anderson, chairman of Famous Dave's, who served as interim CEO during the search for a new chief executive. Anderson remains board chairman.

Famous Dave's owns, operates and franchises barbecue restaurants. The company currently owns 43 locations and franchises an additional 41 units in 23 states, and has signed agreements for an additional 148 franchise restaurants.

In afternoon trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market, Famous Dave's was up 15 cents a share at $4.25.
