Apr. 10, 2001
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) _ Despite protests, the upper house of the Dutch parliament approved a euthanasia bill Tuesday, clearing the final hurdle for a law that makes the Netherlands the first country to let doctors end the lives of patients suffering unbearably and without hope.
The vote was 46-28 and comes after approval in November by the lower house.
