LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Wang Zhizhi officially became a member of the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday after the Dallas Mavericks didn't match the Clippers' offer.
The Clippers originally signed the 7-foot-1 Wang, a backup center for Dallas last season, to a $6 million, three-year offer sheet on Oct. 1. The Mavericks had until Thursday to match the offer.
Wang played in 55 games for Dallas last season and averaged 5.6 points in 10.9 minutes.
Two seasons ago, Dallas made Wang, from China, the first Asian-born player in the NBA, but relations with the team were strained after he declined to join China's national team this summer. He instead played on Golden State's summer league team.
He averaged 4.8 points while appearing in five games for the Mavericks in the 2000-2001 season.
