INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Offensive coordinator Kit Cartwright was hired as the head football coach at Butler on Friday.
Cartwright replaces Ken LaRose, who resigned Wednesday after eight years as coach to enter private business.
``Kit has been an integral part of Butler football during the past four years,'' Butler athletics director John Parry said in a statement. ``His football knowledge and personal skills have earned the respect and support of the administration, his fellow coaches and players.''
Cartwright joined the staff at Butler in 1998, after one year as the passing game coordinator at Indiana University. He has 25 years of college football coaching experience at 11 universities.
In his four seasons as offensive coordinator, Butler has set 10 school records. In 2000, the Bulldogs set school single-season records for points scored (356), passing yards (3,233) and total offense (4,530).
