Restored 'Juliet' To Be Screened

NEW YORK (AP) _ A restored 35mm print of ``Juliet of the Spirits,'' Federico Fellini's first color feature, will screen from May 18-31 at the Film Forum art house theater.
The restoration of the legendary Italian director's 1965 film includes newly translated subtitles. It will appear later in other cities.
The film, about a middle-aged housewife who discovers her husband is cheating on her, is Fellini's love letter to his wife and muse, Giulietta Masina, who is its star. It received Oscar nominations for art direction and costume design and won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film.
Film critic Pauline Kael wrote in 1969 about drug users watching ``Juliet of the Spirits'' to go on hallucinogenic trips, taking advantage of its ``electric, psychedelic color.''
``The color was awful, like in bad MGM musicals _ so one might wonder about the quality of the trips,'' Kael wrote.
