Bob Dole Plans Kansas Tour
Nov. 26, 1997
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Bob Dole is planning a sentimental journey around Kansas to thank folks for sending him to Washington for 35 years.
``We're just going to go around the state, and if anyone shows up, we'll sit there and drink coffee, have a homemade cookie, just like the good old days,'' he told The Wichita Eagle during a Tuesday interview.
He'll be stopping small-town coffee shops, large civic groups and county courthouses, where he can visit old supporters and thank voters who made his political career possible.
The 74-year-old Dole resigned from the Senate in June 1996 to spend more time on his unsuccessful presidential campaign.
``I didn't get home a lot in the last year-and-a-half,'' Dole said.
He's thinking of starting the visits in late December or early January and hopes to visit six places a day.
