VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) _ Charlie Schimberg ran for three touchdowns to lead Drake to a 27-7 win over Valparaiso on Saturday.
Schimberg, who finished the day with 81 yards on 12 carries, scored on runs of 1 and 8 yards in the first quarter as Drake (4-0, 1-0 Pioneer League) opened a 17-0 lead. Chris Willis added his second field goal of the day in the third quarter, and Drake went up 27-0 when Schimberg ran in from 36 yards out with 11:30 left.
Valparaiso's (1-3, 0-1) offense struggled, gaining only 185 yards and turning the ball over three times. Paul Van Dam led the Crusaders with 50 yards rushing on five attempts and combined with Andy Huegli to lead a Valparaiso passing attack that was 7-of-23 for 71 yards.
The Crusaders didn't scored until Huegli hit Steve Clancy for a 10-yard touchdown pass with 1:08 left.
Drake controlled the ball for almost two-thirds of the game with a rushing attack that gained 238 yards. Jason Grove led Drake with 24 carries for 110 yards.
