PEORIA, Ill. (AP) _ Craig Wise tipped in a miss at the last second to give Canisius a 55-53 victory Monday night over Bradley in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Bradley had tied the game at 53 with 15 seconds left on a three-pointer by guard Aaron Zobrist. After a timeout, the Canisius Golden Griffins tried for their own trey.
Center Micheal Meeks missed the shot, but 6-4 forward Wise was there to put it in and grab victory as the buzzer sounded.
The game began as an inside battle, with both teams scrapping for rebounds and scrambling to slip through for a lay-up.
Canisius (20-12) tried to spread the game out with perimeter shooting, but made only one of 10. Bradley (20-10) took a 26-24 lead into halftime.
The Griffins went cold early in the second half, letting Bradley go on a 16-4 run and open an 11-point lead with almost 12 minutes left.
But Canisius finally found its three-point shot. A flurry of them helped the Griffins put together a 10-5 run and take the lead with 1:39 left.
``We're very lucky to be in the winner's circle because of a couple of bad streaks,'' said Canisius coach John Beilein. ``We're not a great three-point shooting team, but we made it.''
Meeks led Canisius with 17 points. Wise added nine points and 12 rebounds.
Zobrist led Bradley with 13 points. Guard Anthony Parker had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Canisius, of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, will play Washington State of the Pac-10. The time and place had not been determined.
