BATON ROUGE (AP) — Casey Golden hit a two-run single to jumpstart UNC Wilmington's six-run third inning, and the Seahawks eliminated Tulane with an 8-2 victory in the Baton Rouge Regional on Sunday night.
With the win, the second-seeded Seahawks (41-17) advanced to take on top-seeded LSU on Monday in the championship round. UNCW will have to beat LSU twice to advance to the Super Regionals.
After a scoreless opening two innings, UNCW sent 10 batters to the plate and got six hits and six runs. Gavin Stupienski's RBI double capped the big inning for the Seahawks.
Nick Monroe (4-3) allowed two runs and six hits in 8 2/3 innings.
Tim Yandel had a pinch-hit, two-run single in the ninth for Tulane (35-25), which wrapped up its first season under coach David Price. Alex Massey (6-4) gave up six runs — four earned — and eight hits in three innings.
