NEW YORK (AP) _ A pregnant woman was shot in the head and critically injured during a drive-by shooting Sunday, but doctors were able to deliver her child, police said.

Marilyn Colon, 20, and Carlos Ventura, 26, were standing on a street near the Bronx Zoo early Sunday when a car pulled up and an occupant opened fire, said police Sgt. Grace Ridley.

Ventura, who was hit five times, was killed, she said.

Colon, who was eight months pregnant, was shot in the head. Doctors at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center operated immediately and delivered a 5-pound, 11-ounce girl, said Vicki Ciampa, a hospital spokeswoman.

''The baby is doing good,'' Ciampa said.

Police said they knew of no motive for the shooting and said no arrests had been made.
