CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A man has been arrested in connection with a fire at a North Carolina apartment complex that left at least 130 people without a place to live.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said 20-year-old Jesus Reyes Lopez was arrested without incident on Thursday. A news release from police said Lopez is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson and damage to property by use of an incendiary device.

Lopez is being held in the county jail. Online records don't indicate if he has an attorney.

Authorities say seven people were hospitalized after trying to escape Monday's fire, with some families jumping out of windows from second- and third-floor units to avoid the flames.

The Charlotte Fire Department said the blaze caused an estimated $1.3 million in damages.
