WASHINGTON (AP) _ Chasity Melvin scored 17 points to lead the Washington Mystics past the Minnesota Lynx 74-71 Friday night at the MCI Center.

The Mystics (2-3) used a balanced attack that featured four players in double figures. Reserve DeLisha Milton-Jones had 16 points, Alana Beard had 14 in her first game back since injuring her right ankle and Temeka Johnson added 12.

Katie Smith led the Lynx (1-3) with 20 points. Stacey Lovelace added 13 and Nicole Ohlde and Svetlana Abrosimova each had 12.

The Mystics made 12-of-22 3-pointers, including seven in the second half. The Mystics made a WNBA-record 15 3-pointers against the Los Angeles Sparks on May 26.

Laurie Koehn's 3-pointer drew Washington to 48-47, and Milton-Jones followed up with a pair of 3-pointers to give the Mystics the lead for good.

Reserve Vanessa Hayden made 5-of-6 shots in the first half, including a layup with 6:25 remaining, to give the Lynx a 22-20 lead.

Minnesota extended the lead to 34-27 on Tamika Williams' layup with 1:30 left. A pair of 3-pointers in the final minute from Beard and Melvin narrowed the Lynx lead to 36-33 at halftime.
