Dow Gains 25 in Early Trading
Aug. 30, 1999
NEW YORK (AP) _ The Dow Jones industrial average is up 25 points in today's early going. Advancers on the New York Stock Exchange hold a 6-5 ead over decliners.
The Nasdaq Composite Index is up two points and the S&P 500 Index is up one point.
Wall Street appears to be in no hurry to recover the ground that was lost the past two sessions.
The Dow finished last week with losses of more than 100 points on both Thursday and Friday.
Friday's loss came after Fed chairman Alan Greenspan suggested that central bankers need to pay closer attention to market fluctuations.
Like Friday, trading volume is expected to remain rather light today.
There is an economic report to consider. The July report on new home sales is to be released at 10 a.m. EDT.
Ahead of the report, bonds are flat to slightly higher in price.
