Veterans groups raise $58K for Bozeman veterans cemetery

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Groundwork is expected to begin this summer on a veterans cemetery within Bozeman's Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Veterans groups in southwestern Montana raised $58,000 to begin the work and the city of Bozeman is putting $88,000 toward the project.
Bozeman American Legion Cmdr. Len Albright says the money is enough to build a foundation and do some landscaping on the one-third acre plot.
Plans call for six columbariums as well as a service shelter, a restroom and an area for plots with uniform government-issued headstones.
Albright tells the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that once the first columbarium is completed, revenue from the Department of Veterans Affairs burial assistance will allow them to build the other five.
He says fundraising continues.
The closest veterans cemeteries to Bozeman are in Helena and Laurel.
