LONDON (AP) _ European stock markets closed lower Thursday.

Chip-related stocks declined after U.S. semiconductor giant Advanced Micro Devices cut its July-September sales outlook.

Germany's Infineon was down 4.0 percent, French STMicroelectronics fell 4.1 percent, and U.K. ARM Holdings lost 12 percent.

The Dow Jones Stoxx Total Market Index of shares in European companies fell 2.52 points to 191.91 points. The Dow Jones Euro Stoxx Total Market Index, which tracks companies in countries that joined the common currency, was down 3.37 points at 178.37 points.

The Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 Index was down 52.6 points at 2,309.2 and the Dow Jones Stoxx 50 Index was down 35.4 points at 2,423.5.

In domestic markets, The Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100-share index closed down 24.90 points, or 0.64 percent, at 3,880.30; the CAC 40 Index in Paris closed down 79.80 points, or 2.71 percent, at 2,861.04; and Frankfurt's Xetra DAX was down 113.44 points, or 3.88 percent, at 2,813.30.
