WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Bush will appoint Juliette C. McLennan as U.S. representative to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the White House said Monday.
Mrs. McLennan, of Washington, D.C., is a veteran of Bush's presidential campaigns in both 1980 and 1988. She was managing director of Blair House, the nation's official guest house for high-ranking foreign visitors, for the State Department in 1981-1983.
In another action, the president announced he will nominate Dan Howard, the former Pentagon spokesman, as undersecretary of the Navy. Howard had been assistant secretary of defense for public affairs and had served as a White House deputy press secretary and special assistant to the president.
He also served in the State Department public affairs office for the East Asian and Pacific Affairs division and in foreign postings in Cyprus, Poland and Japan.
