MOSCOW (AP) _ Top-seeded Jana Novotna beat Kimberly Po of the United States 6-0, 6-2 Thursday in the second round of the $926,250 Kremlin Cup at indoor Olympic Stadium.
Second-seeded Irina Spirlea of Romania defeated Larisa Neiland of Latvia 6-4, 7-6 (12-10).
In other matches, Japan's Ai Sugiyama topped seventh-seeded Brenda Schultz-McCarthy of the Netherlands 6-4, 7-5; U.S. Open runner-up Venus Williams beat Italy's Silvia Farina 6-4, 6-0, and Dominique Van-Roost of Belgium downed Helena Sukova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
