Smoke in jail leads to evacuation of Tennessee inmates
Jul. 07, 2018
ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Inmates at a Tennessee county jail were evacuated after smoke started to fill the facility.
B.J. Hudspeth with the Cheatham County Emergency Management Service tells news outlets that officials took ventilation fans inside the jail once it was cleared of all inmates Friday afternoon. The inmates were taken to a nearby courthouse.
One person was hospitalized, but officials say that was owing to a pre-existing condition, not smoke.
It's unclear what caused the smoke. The extent of the damage inside the jail has not been released.
