Lawyers: Woman accused of killing her sons has brain damage
Jul. 26, 2017
BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — Attorneys for an Ohio woman accused of suffocating her three sons out of jealousy over the attention her husband gave them say her videotaped confession should be tossed out after experts concluded she has brain damage and a low IQ.
The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/2eNQVLU ) attorneys for 25-year-old Brittany Pilkington say childhood trauma and lead poisoning impaired her ability to "knowingly" waive her rights to police.
The Bellefontaine (behl-FOWN'-tihn) woman is charged with aggravated murder for the deaths of the toddler and two infants over a 13-month period in 2014 and 2015. Prosecutors say she confessed in a recorded police interview.
A Logan County judge previously denied a motion claiming her confession was coerced.
A hearing is set for August.
Bellefontaine is about 60 miles (97 kilometers) northwest of Columbus.
