SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) _ Wil Cordero had two hits and Ferdinand Rodriguez hit a two-run homer Saturday night, leading Puerto Rico past Venezuela 3-1 in the Caribbean Series.
Puerto Rico (3-2) will play the two-time champion Dominican Republic (4-1) on Sunday night in the last scheduled game of the six-day tournament. A win by Puerto Rico would force a one-game playoff Monday.
Javier Vazquez allowed only four hits in six shutout innings to earn the win. Miguel Alicea got Wes Chamberlain to ground into a game-ending double play for his third save of the series.
Luis Raven homered for Venezuela (2-3) in the seventh off reliever Luis DeLeon. Raven leads the series with seven RBIs.
Puerto Rico took a 1-0 lead in the second when Rodriguez doubled off the left-field wall, stole third base and scored when catcher Ramon Hernandez's throw went into left field.
Cordero, recently signed by the Cleveland Indians, singled in the sixth and Rodriguez homered off loser Johan Lopez.
Chamberlain, who entered the game with six RBIs and batting .545 (6-for-11), went 0-for-4.
Right fielder Alex Diaz of Puerto Rico, scheduled to report in two weeks for spring training with the Houston Astros, injured his right groin chasing a ball Friday night in a loss to Mexico and is inactive for the remainder of the series.
Earlier in the day, the Dominicans defeated Mexico (1-4). Luis Polonia leads the Caribbean Series in batting at .615 (8-for-13) for the Dominican Republic, which beat Puerto Rico 5-1 earlier in the tournament.
