WINFIELD, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia police officer who's on leave following a 2017 wreck that led to a woman's death has been charged with domestic battery.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail cites a witness' account in a criminal complaint that says Officer Stephen Doss slapped and scratched his wife's face. It says they were returning from a bar in Teays Valley with another man on Sunday when the couple argued. He was released on bail.
Doss pleaded guilty in November to speeding in a police cruiser without using its lights or sirens. He crashed into a woman who died from her injuries and he was placed on paid leave.
Chief Steve Cooper says the department is conducting an internal investigation. City Attorney Paul Ellis says Doss will stay on leave per state law.
