AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A lobbyist for a medical marijuana trade group will be breaking bread with Maine Gov. Paul LePage after making the high bid at a benefit auction for a dinner for four with the governor.
Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine lobbyist Paul McCarrier bid $1,000 at Thursday's auction to benefit the Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund.
McCarrier tells the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/YpUPKa) he won't be lobbying LePage. Rather, he says he made the bid on behalf of a group member who's a LePage supporter and has been asking to get him a meeting with the governor.
McCarrier put in the winning bid after other bidders, including Democratic lawmakers, drove the bidding up to $875. When he offered $1,000, nobody made a counter bid.
