Israeli Army Closes Illegal Road

ELON MOREH, West Bank (AP) _ The Israeli army blockaded an illegally built road on Thursday that linked two Jewish settlements, an Israeli Civil Administration spokesman said.
The army blocked the road linking Elon Moreh to its sister settlement, Elon Moreh East, because the road passed through land privately owned by Palestinians, said Peter Lerner.
Lerner said Elon Moreh settlers agreed to the closure. No clashes were reported.
An Israeli army statement said that the area was declared a closed military area, and that work was underway to remove the road.
Prime Minister Ehud Barak, who has revived peace talks with the Palestinians, has pledged to remove illegal Jewish structures from the disputed areas.
Jewish settlers, hoping cooperation will stem the dismantling of larger more established settlements, are not opposing him for now.
