ORANGE, Calif. (AP) — A woman who crashed her car into a Southern California police officer, critically injuring him, has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Orange Police Officer Sharif Muzayen, who suffered major trauma to his legs and pelvis, was in court during sentencing Tuesday.
In a victim-impact statement, the officer told Ashley Bertolino it didn't appear she had learned her lesson.
The Orange County Register reports Bertolino had pleaded guilty to drunken driving and other felonies.
The 27-year-old was accused of having a blood alcohol level of .13 percent and being under the influence of drugs during the crash in December.
The officer was struck by her Hyundai while standing outside of his patrol vehicle.
Muzayen, a former Marine and father of two, says he hopes to rejoin the department after his long recovery process.
