Peoria recycling program inundated with tires
Mar. 29, 2015
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — A tire recycling program designed to clean up neighborhoods in Peoria was so popular volunteers had to turn people away after just two hours.
Program coordinator Julie Eliathamby Ryan says it was "phenomenal."
Volunteers from The Tireless Project filled a trailer with more than 1,000 tires and couldn't take any more.
With help from the city and the Peoria Disposal Company, the volunteers are seeking to clean up illegal dumping spots and give residents a free way to unload unused tires.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/19b7M2F ) that for anyone who missed out, the next collection date is April 25. Organizers say they'll host a drop-off on the fourth Saturday of every month through September.
