JERUSALEM (AP) _ A gunman, apparently not a terrorist, opened fire in downtown Jerusalem early Sunday, wounding two people, police said.
Jerusalem police spokesman Kobi Zrihen said an armed man was apprehended after opening fire. ``This is apparently not a terrorist attack,'' he said.
The incident took place before dawn on the Street of the Prophets, near the open line between the Jewish and Arab parts of Jerusalem.
Police have been on high alert in Jerusalem for months because of Palestinian-Israeli violence. The city has been the target of many Palestinian suicide bombing attacks.
Earlier Israel Army Radio said the incident was a gunfire attack by a Palestinian. Zrihen also had initially said the attack had been launched by a terrorist.
