Ertl Wins Third Giant Slalom of Season

MARIBOR, Slovenia (AP) _ Martina Ertl of Germany skied the fastest second run and won her third giant slalom of the World Cup season today, moving her into the overall standings lead.
Italy's Deborah Compagnoni, making her first Cup appearance this season after a knee operation, led after the first run but could not match Ertl on the second, finishing .32 seconds behind the German for a total 2 minutes, 18.55 seconds.
Ertl, the only skier to go under 1 minute, 8 seconds on the shorter second run, had an overall 2:18.23.
Third was her Katja Seizinger, another German, with a clocking of 2:18.90.
Sabina Panzanini of Italy was fourth with 2:19.35, followed by Austrian Anita Wachter fifth at 2:19.82.
Ertl's victory pushed her ahead of Wachter in the season standings. The German now has 553 points. Wachter is second with 549.
