NEW YORK (AP) _ Daniel McCarthy, who is trying to gain approval as the New York Yankees managing general partner, has canceled his scheduled meeting today with commissioner Fay Vincent.

McCarthy met with Vincent several weeks ago and the commissioner said he had more questions to ask the Cleveland tax lawyer. McCarthy's chances of approval are viewed as slim because he sued Vincent in 1990 in an attempt to keep Yankees owner George Steinbrenner in power.

''He had a conflict with a court appearance,'' deputy commissioner Stephen Greenberg said, explaining the cancellation.

Greenberg said the meeting has not yet been rescheduled.
