CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Jonathan Pixley had 16 points and Samford recovered from a halftime deficit to beat Stetson 60-51 in the first round of the Trans America Athletic Conference on Thursday.
The Bulldogs (19-8), the top seed from the TAAC's West Division, on Friday face Florida International, which defeated Georgia State 70-57. They won for the ninth time in 10 games.
Samford shot 59 percent (13-of-22) after the break to overcome a 24-21 halftime deficit. Freddie Williams layup with 13:32 left capped a 9-0 run that put the Bulldogs up 36-30.
Stetson never got closer.
Will Daniel added 15 points and eight rebounds for Samford and Harley Ross had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Jeff Warbritton topped Stetson (9-18) with 11 points before fouling out. Nate Miller had 10 points.
