THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) _ Adele Boatwright Carmichael, an ordained minister for 85 years who continued to teach Bible study classes past the age of 100, died Tuesday at the age of 101.
Carmichael, who lived on her own until her death, also walked twice a day, baked and sewed, and decorated her mobile home in Thousand Oaks with her own paintings and hand-carved dolls.
She was converted to the Assemblies of God at age 8, along with the rest of her family, and after her father became a preacher the following year she accompanied him around their native Iowa.
After becoming ordained at age 16, she led tent revival meetings near Branson, Mo.
She also became one of the first ministers to use radio to spread the Gospel when she began broadcasting from such Midwestern cities beginning in 1922.
