GEORGETOWN, Colo. (AP) _ Austrian Nicole Hosp, one of the tri-winners last month in the opening World Cup giant slalom of the season, overcome soft snow conditions Wednesday to win the opening NorAm Cup GS of the winter.

The 19-year-old skier had a two-run time of 1 minute, 52.35 seconds. Canadian Britt Janyk second was in a field of 119 racers. Janyk's time was 1:52.50 at Loveland Basin Ski Area.

Another Austrian, Silvia Berger, was third.

Resi Steigler of Jackson Hole, Wyo., was the best American finisher at sixth. That was two spots ahead of Crotian Janica Kostelic, who won three Olympic gold medals last February, including the giant slalom.

The women race another giant slalom Thursday before the men complete the Nature Valley Alpine Cup races with slaloms Saturday and Sunday.
