CORDOBA, Spain (AP) _ Alex Zulle of Switzerland snatched the overall lead of the Tour of Spain from his countryman Laurent Dufaux on Sunday in a time-trial won by Spaniard Melchor Mauri.

Mauri, whose ONCE team took four of the top five places in the 21-mile ninth stage of the tour around the southern city of Cordoba, finished in 41 minutes, 11 seconds.

Ukraine's Serguei Gontchar was 21 seconds behind, followed by Laurent Jalabert of France at 22 seconds back and then Zulle, at 38 seconds off the pace.

Zulle leads the 22-stage race with an overall time of 38 hours, 42 minutes, 10 seconds, followed by Dufaux _ who led the race since Thursday _ at 32 seconds behind. Spain's Fernando Escartin, Denmark's Claus Moller and France's Yvon Ledanois are third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Monday's leg is a 134-mile race from Cordoba to the southwestern town of Almendralejo, including a third-category peak, el Alto del Mirador.
