Oct. 12, 2015
LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A Lowell police officer who was photographed apparently taking a nap inside his cruiser while on duty has been placed on administrative leave.
A citizen snapped a photo of the officer and sent it to The Sun newspaper (http://bit.ly/1LqxJey ), which published the photo on Friday.
The Lowell Police Internal Affairs investigators spent two days investigating images of the officer before announcing the suspension over the weekend.
The officer's name has not been released.
Superintendent William Taylor said in a statement that while "extremely embarrassing this is not representative of the hardworking and dedicated men and women of the Lowell Police Department."
The leave is effective immediately and the incident remains under investigation.
