ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) _ Two fighter jets collided over the White Sands Missile Range on Friday, forcing one pilot to eject from his plane while the other landed his aircraft, the Air Force said.
Capt. Craig Swaby of Petoskey, Mich., suffered minor injures when he ejected, said spokeswoman Dawn McKee. His F-15 fighter crashed.
The other pilot, Dale Rodeheaver of Accident, Md., landed his F-15 safely, and was treated at the Holloman Air Force Base hospital and released, Ms. McKee said.
The jets were on a training mission out of Holloman when they collided 81 miles north of Alamogordo about 11:30 a.m., Ms. McKee said.
Swaby, 26, was in stable condition at the base hospital. Both he and Rodeheaver, 29, are from the 9th Tactical Fighter Squadron.
An investigation of the crash was launched.
