BOSTON (AP) — A Boston man has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of a college student from Cape Cod at a New Year's party two years ago.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury found 26-year-old Brian MacDonald guilty during the first full day of deliberations. Jurors will return Monday to consider whether MacDonald's co-defendant, 26-year-old Bianca Hollenbeck, is guilty of assaulting the victim before his death in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, 2013.

Authorities say MacDonald and the victim, 21-year-old Anthony Spaulding, got into a dispute after Spaulding asked revelers at his apartment to quiet down.

MacDonald was a party guest. He had been charged with second-degree murder.

Defense lawyers called it a case of self-defense.

Spaulding grew up in Harwich and was attending college in Boston.
