NEW YORK (AP) _ Alan Trammell of the Detroit Tigers has taken a slim lead in fan balloting over Cal Ripken for the starting shortstop spot on the American League All- Star team, the commissioner's office said Monday.
Although he has been named to four All-Star teams, Trammell has never been the elected starter. Ripken has started the past four All-Star Games for the American League.
